Watkins Glen State Park
is the crowning jewel of Schuyler County parks and one of the flagship parks of the New York State Parks system. It features 19 waterfalls in 2 miles. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the cascading spray of caverns. UPDATE 5/9/2018: A portion of The Gorge Trail is now open - from Couch's Staircase to Glen Cathedral. The best way to access Couch's Staircase is via the South Entrance (3528 Route 419, Watkins Glen, NY 14891). Proceed through the entrance, park in the lot to your right, and head down the trail behind the stone pavilion. You'll receive a trail map upon entry to the park. The Gorge Trail is open seasonally through the end of October. The Rim Trail overlooks the gorge and is open year-round. It is also dog-friendly, whereas dogs are not permitted on the Gorge Trail. You can stay at the park thanks to the tent and trailer camping. There is also a playground, Olympic-size swimming pool, and picnic facilities to enjoy. For more information, please click here.
